Just lay back and enjoy the ride.
We can’t believe it, but another year has passed and it’s time for the biggest, longest, loudest music festival in the world. Or at least in Iceland, which is hipper than most of the world, so you get the idea.
“What’s all this ‘Airwaves‘ then?” you ask. Airwaves is what Woodstock would have been if it was 7° in that New York field back in ’69. Airwaves is what you wish your college weekends were like. Airwaves is where bands that you will lie to your kids about liking before they were famous come to blow the house down. If you don’t know, you’d better ask somebody.
This year’s passes to see the 200+ acts sold out in record time, so if you aren’t wearing an armband right now you’re out of luck. But don’t worry, we’ll give you corporate-appropriate daily updates right here. We’ll also gladly fly you to Iceland for the festival next year (and far cheaper than that other airline whose logo you see plastered all over the Airwaves site).
Some of the bands we’re shaking to see:
GusGus NASA | Friday | 00:00
Yes, we sponsor their European tour. Yes, they consistently deliver high-energy shows that leave you feeling better about life.
Mugison NASA | Saturday | 22:15
What Tom Waits would sound like if he had been raised on whale meat. Mugison is the up-and-coming Grandfather of Icelandic rock hipness.
Plants and Animals Iðnó | Friday | 22:15
If there’s one place that knows pop rock, it’s Montreal, Canada. It must be all of that maple syrup and French toast.
Snake and Jet’s Amazing Bullit Band Lídó | Saturday | 00:30
Great name.

Good one! Too bad you guys (and girls) don’t fly from the Netherlands to Iceland during Airwaves. Will this be the case next year? I hope so!
We “worker bees” don’t get much advanced notice on things like destinations, or what’s for lunch.
Plus, during Airwaves weekend, even if they told us we’d never remember.
