[...] Despite being situated midway between Þingvellir and Geysir, and thus being smack in the midst of the Golden Circle, the old sauna has not caught on with foreign visitors - yet. With a major development in the works from the people who brought you the Blue Lagoon, you can be sure that this weathered gem will be transformed into a glistening tourist hotspot shortly. You’ve been warned. [...]

Geysir gave me some very happy, nay, joyful moments waiting for the other tourists to get soaked. You make your own entertainment there for sure.

Top Tip: If you have travelled from far or wide to see Geysir and find your enthusiasm curbed after only two eruptions, why not make the third and fourth all that much more exciting, by noting the direction the wind is blowing and standing next to Geysir, facing head on, into the wind. (note: there’ll be a, tell-tale, huge, wet puddle mark beneath you).

Then, the next time Geysir erupts and geothermic boiling water, goes shooting skywards, is caught by the wind and comes hurtling straight at you, you’ll be struck by the frenzied thoughts of how quickly you can run compared to water vapour on strong winds and how hot water has to be to melt your face off. This wards off feelings of predictability and boredom, whilst also providing plenty of entertainment and photographic opportunities to other spectators (note: screaming like a girl and flailing your arms around whilst making a dash for it, adds to the comedy value element).

Isn’t that right Annie?
